SIMGBM intends to award the best Doctoral Thesis in the field of Microbial Biotechnology.
Ph.D. theses discussed at Italian universities after January 1, 2022 may be submitted.
Applications must be received by the Society’s secretariat electronically at simgbmsegreteria@gmail.com by April 16, 2023 in the form below:
A) PDF file named “Tatò2023-Surname_Name-Application” containing:
1) application bearing generalities, domicile, telephone and e-mail address, indication of the laboratory where the thesis was carried out, and indication of the award in which you intend to participate*.
2) brief curriculum vitae;
3) certificate (or self-certification) attesting to the achievement of the PhD degree. Theses delivered and not yet discussed will also be accepted, provided that the discussion is scheduled by June 1, 2023. In this case, a letter from the coordinator attesting to the date of discussion of the thesis should be attached in the same file.
4) Signed attestation (see attached) that the Tutor/Reader of the Thesis is a SIMGBM Member with regular membership status including 2023. Regular membership status of the Tutor is one of the prerequisites for the validity of the application.
B) PDF file named “Tatò2023-Surname_Name-Thesis” containing copy of the thesis, including abstract and any supplementary materials. In case the file is too heavy it is possible to send it via the web (wetransfer, google or other). However, please specify.
The prize of € 1,000 will be awarded upon the unquestionable judgment of a committee specially appointed by the Society and will be presented as part of the SIMGBM Congress – Microbiology 2023, to be held in Cagliari, Italy, from September 21-24, 2023. The winner is expected to attend the event and at that event he/she will be required to publicly present the award-winning work. The winner will be notified in writing by July 3, 2023, and the results will be posted on www.simgbm.it. The Selection Boards reserve the right to change the area in which the thesis will be evaluated in relation to the congruence of the thesis with the theme of the call for papers.
*Important note: Applicants cannot apply for the “Franco Tato” (Microbial Biotechnology) and “SIMGBM” (General Microbiology) Awards at the same time.
