Franco Tato Award 2024

SIMGBM intends to award the best Doctoral Thesis in the field of Microbial Biotechnology.

Doctoral theses defended at Italian Universities after January 1, 2023 may be submitted.
Applications must be received by the Society’s secretariat electronically at simgbmsegreteria@gmail.com by March 20, 2024 in the following form:
A) PDF file named “Tatò2024-Surname_Name-Application” containing:
1) application bearing personal details, address, telephone and e-mail address, indication of the laboratory where the thesis was carried out, and indication of the award in which the applicant intends to participate*.
2) brief curriculum vitae;
3) certificate (or self-certification) attesting to the achievement of the PhD degree. Theses delivered and not yet discussed will also be accepted, provided that the discussion is scheduled by June 1, 2024. In this case, a letter from the coordinator attesting to the date of thesis discussion should be attached in the same file.
4) Signed attestation (see attached) that the Thesis Supervisor of the Thesis is a SIMGBM Member with regular membership status including 2024. Regular membership status of the Tutor is one of the prerequisites for the validity of the application.

B) PDF file named “Tatò2024-Surname_Name-Thesis” containing copy of the thesis, including abstract and any supplementary materials. If the file is too large it is possible to send it via the web (Wetransfer, Google or other). However, please specify.

The prize of €1,500 will be awarded upon the unquestionable judgment of a committee specially appointed by the Society and will be presented as part of the upcoming Cortona Procarioti Conference to be held in Cortona June 27-29, 2024. The winner is required to attend the event and must publicly present the award-winning work at the event.

The winner will be notified in writing by June 1, 2024, and the results will be posted on www.simgbm.it. The Selection Boards reserve the right to change the evaluation area based on the relevance of the thesis to the theme of the call.

*Important note: Candidates for this award will not be eligible to apply for the SIMGBM Award for Best Thesis in General Microbiology) nor for the SIMGBM Award for Best Paper in General Microbiology.
