Because so many people-teachers, researchers, students and ordinary citizens-wanted to bear civil witness together to the social, scientific and cultural error and profound inhumanity of racism in all its forms. Because in a world changing with unprecedented speed, it becomes more urgent every day to reaffirm the principle of equality among human beings, in the rights and duties of a common destiny as citizens of the world.
